The human condition involves maters to do with relationships, companionships not excluding mortality and birth. In the use of portraits and photographs to depict messages, Kimsooja selects specific environments and places herself strategically in the photos. ‘A Needle Woman’ portrays a perfect example of her motion-photographic work. A needle is perceived as an instrument that brings pain when it encounters the body and skin through piercing. However, the needle is also used as a symbol of continuity. It enables the continuity of the fabric by joining the fabric together using a thread as the intermediary.
